Welcome to the second part of our apartment tour! Today, the master bedroom and en suite (yes, possible I’ve watched too much HGTV).
Our bedroom is much larger than the bedroom we had in New York, and not just because we have a bathroom in our bedroom. Even the bedroom portion of our room is much larger. It’s so nice and it really feels like a master bedroom instead of just a regular bedroom. Especially when you have two people living in the same space, larger is definitely better! We also have a ton of natural light, with a view of trees and a trail rather than an interstate freeway. It’s so much quieter! I’ve finally started sleeping without ear plugs after more than four years of using them!
P.S. We never have the two accent pillows on the bed — they’re just there for the pictures!
I’ve never really figured out what our “style” is. Our living room is on the more colorful side, so with our bedroom, I wanted something pretty and calming, but of course, not too girly. Always have to consider the husband. I’ve always loved quilts, so we found one at Bed Bath & Beyond that was pretty without looking too country or Grandma-like. Then we paired it with some home decor from Target and Homegoods that fit the blue, silver and cream color scheme. We found really cute vintage picture frames and filled them with a photo from when we were dating, engaged and our wedding day. The clock used to work but the ticking drove me crazy. so we took the batteries out.
The door on the right leads out to the balcony.
This is our en suite! We have a walk-through closet area, with double door closets on either side. The one of the left is mine and the one on the right is Erik’s. One side of the closet has two rods, so I have my regular shirts up top and my skirts and workout tops below. The other side only has one rod, so that’s where I keep my dresses and sweaters. It works out really nicely and it’s so much easier to find things than my last closet. Our New York apartment had really deep closets so it was easy to store stuff, but the closet was on the narrower side so my clothes were pretty squished together. Plus, these closets are actually in our bedroom. Our last apartment had the closets in the hallway!
The bathroom part of the en suite is a little unusual. We have a water closet, so the toilet and shower are together, with the sink on the outside. The part is nice, but the weird thing is that both towel racks are on the inside. There’s no towel rack by the sink, so we have to get a little free-standing rack. It’s kinda weird. Also: no double sinks. Our last place only had one sink too, but man, I think for our next apartment we definitely need two sinks! I can see why it’s a must-have on so many of the HGTV shows!
Next week: our guest bedroom and bathroom!
