About Me

Hi there! I’m Allison, a newly-married twentysomething. I live in the suburbs of the greatest city in the world, New York City, with my geologist husband, Erik, and our pretty Russian Blue cat, Natasha. I grew up just outside Portland, Oregon, where my family still lives. Although I’ve lived on the East Coast for more than 5 years, I’ll be an Oregon girl til the day I die.

I’m currently attending community college to finish up pre-reqs for nursing school and I hope to become a Certified Diabetes Educator someday. By night, I’m a sales associate at Pier 1 Imports and a freelance writer. I own Blue Cupcake, a line of diabetes-inspired greeting cards. We were recently featured in USA Today! I’m also working on my first book, for young adults living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, which will be released in early 2014.

In a past life, I worked in public relations, but that didn’t really pan out.

I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for 19 years. I use Lantus and Humalog to manage my diabetes, but I was previously on a Medtronic insulin pump for about 12 years. I also manage my diabetes by eating healthy and exercising. I enjoy running and eating a mostly Paleo diet. I spend a lot of time reading about nutrition, fitness and optimal health!

I love reading, spending time with friends and my husband, exploring NYC, and spending copious amounts of time watching HGTV. I am a member of my local Junior League. We are also active in our church, and regularly attend our Quarterlife group. Faith and grace are such important parts of my life that I have them permanently decorating my body in the form of a tattoo that I got on the 7th anniversary of my baptism.

I’m so glad you found my little corner of the web and I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment, follow me on Twitter, or email me privately at amnimlos [@] gmail.com.
